Road Trip - Jan2008

Last 3 week, we went for a long road trip. Riyadh-Jeddah-Madinah-Riyadh. It was a wonderful journey and we all enjoyed every moment of it. We went with Onna & family. My kids were so happy coz they have their frens traveling with them :-)

We went to Makkah first to perform Umrah and that the drive was about 8 hrs. We reached Makkah at about 6am. Alhamdulilah at that time , Makkah was not crowded as most of the Hajj pilgrims have gone back. It was really wonderful to be able to complete the tawaf in about 5 mins!

After lunch, we headed to Jeddah. It took us only 1 hr to reach Jeddah. Jeddah is dubbed as Paris of the Middle east....I guess coz Jeddah has lots of romantic venues such as the beach (here you can actually see couples walking hand in hand strolling along the beach - which is rare in Riyadh!))and many fine dining restaurants. My kids were so excited abt Jeddah as they cant wait to go to the beach (the Red Sea) and thats what we did most - lepak at the Corniche or the water front. The beach has clear water and the kids had a blast playing at the beach! Jeddah is an old city, not as modern as Riyadh but I find that people are more relaxed there. You can see hundreds of families having picnic along the beach, even kat tepi jalan or on the roundabout. I kid you not!!

The Corniche, Jeddah

They will sit on their tikar, with their coffee pot and some with their barbeque sets. Looks like people in Jeddah main activities are picniking! Berbeza dgn orang in Riyadh, main activity is spending time and $$$ at the shopping malls! I guess their life is more relaxed and another thing we noticed is that the drivers are not as crazy as drivers in Riyadh!

Kalau boleh mandi, memang dah terjun dah!

We spend 2 wonderful days and 1 nite in Riyadh, siap ada jamuan makan lagi thanks to hubby's fren, Nizam & family. They lived in a gorgeous compound that make u feel like u are living in US.... With a swimming pool in front of their house...and lovely gardens in the porch..Hmm, we all telan air liur je!

After Jeddah, we then moved on to Madinah. It took us 4 hrs to reached Madinah. This is my second time in Madinah and I luv Madinah! I cant explain it but Madinah gives you a peaceful and wonderful feeling when u r there. Hubby felt the same too. We spend only one day in Madinah (from Sat afternoon to Sun afternoon) tapi of course sempat shopping jugak! (actually too many shops but too little time!!) Sempat jugak beli 2 arbayas...he..he...Seronok shopping in Makkah or Madinah coz almost all the shopkeepers can talk BM!! So senang nak tawar menawar harga.

Ada Bakso di Madinah!!

In Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah the temperature was pleasant at about 20c. But we when finally reached Riyadh, had "temperature shock" coz the it was very the cold! The temp was about 12 C. So of course balik from the trip we all ber-hibernate......heh..heh....

This sounds like a great trip. I've never been to Jeddah or Madinah, perhaps I could copy this trip.. but I don't know anybody in jeddah though :P
Kalau I pegi, maybe kena buat at least 5 days trip Khobar-riyadh-makkah-jeddah-madinah-riyadh-khobar (sleep at least one night at each destination), ek?
How much was ATV rental in jeddah? it's SR50/hour in khobar.
