Thought Catalog inspired

I just read an interesting article from thoughtcatalog.com. I stumbled upon it via a link posted by a friend in facebook. (yeah, where else!) Its a website where people contributes anything under the sun, usually witty, interesting and intellectual funny articles which have become my 'bedtime' stories. Reading them via my iphone before I go to bed is really becoming a bad habit of mine, hope I wont need reading glasses soon!

Anyways, what inspired me to write today is the article I just read just now - Young-people-arent-having-sex-in-New-York . It is based on an article that The New York Observer has run about the supposed sexless lives of twenty-something New Yorkers. According to writer Nate Freeman, people have sold their sex lives for a large following on Twitter, cocaine, and an iPhone. Hmmm...

I find the article amusing yet come to think of it what the writer said is actually true. Im not going to touch about the sex thingy ok, but more on REAL relationship vs cyber friendship. Like he said, he has 300 followers on twitter and more friends on facebook but the truth is meeting them or actually interacting with them away from your from your laptop is terrifying. In the end, you would still spend the nights or weekends in your home, order delivery and chat and lol with your so called friends on the net. Makes me wonder if this is going to be the lifestyles for my kids? That social interaction means social networking. The most you come face to face with a friend/family is via the web cam when you skype.

Come to think of it, more than often, I rather send an mail or chat with my friends rather than calling them. Why? I dont really know, maybe I feel more comfortable that way I guess.. Nowadays, you can make someone happy just by sending them pictures of flowers and cupcakes on the birthday on their facebook wall. You can also have pets who never poo on your carpet and yet loves you tremendously. You see your nephew and nieces 'grow up' via facebook, flick or picasa looking at the pics posted by their parents year after year. You learned about people you just know by google-ing them rather than talk or ask them personally. You can earn your degree without ever going for class and lectures.

Gosh, all these makes me think about Inception! Where one day you can't differentiate between the real world and cyberworld. Huh...I must find a totem spinner asap!

im a bit puzzled, shouldnt u feel happy bout the article??

the article explained that adultery, something that destroys the nation and its generation, could actually be on a decline.

the lesser between two evil, twitter is substantially a lesser one.

HI NS,

Actually my post was about friendship and living in the real world vs cyberworld, not about sex at all.

The article is the one discussing about sexual activities, not mine, coz my blog is PG rated. ;-)

hmm.. i find that very misleading. u're quoting an article as a *catalyst* of your posting and now u're saying that it's totally different? :P
